We have a wide-array of academic programs and services here at RVHS. What follows is a description of just a few of the outstanding programs in which our students can participate. Renaissance isn't just a program; it's a process that encourages academic excellence, improvement, and citizenship. Jostens Renaissance is the first and only national education-focused program created to recognize and reward the academic achievements of students. Its primary goals are to increase student performance and teacher enthusiasm, and raise the level of community participation in schools. Renaissance schools often focus their program on four target areas:

  1. Increasing student attendance
  2. Improving overall academic performance
  3. Increasing graduation rates
  4. Creating a positive, safe school environment

In schools that use the Renaissance program as part of their curriculum, administrators have noted positive progress in areas such as:

  • Grade point averages
  • Standardized test scores
  • Attendance
  • Discipline Services


We offer "gifted" programs to help give students with superior intellect or advanced learning ability a chance to receive special instruction in an effort to help them reach their highest potential. Parents, legal guardians, students, and teachers may request information regarding referral, screening, selection, and placement from the Exceptional Student Programs/Special Services office at 768-1665. Colorado River Union High School District #2 will, with the parent's/guardian's written permission, periodically provide the opportunity for students to be tested to determine eligibility for such programming. We will provide parents/guardians written notification of their student's ability to qualify within a reasonable amount of time after testing.



The purpose of our Honors Program is to encourage students to follow an academic program that will challenge their abilities, give them a feeling of accomplishment, and reward their success. We offer honors courses at various levels of the core curriculum and grades are weighted. We identify our honors courses through the school curriculum guide (available in the guidance office). These courses carry the following weighted grade point value and are included in the cumulative grade point ranking of students for the graduating classes of 2005, 2006, and 2007. Beginning with the Class of 2008, we will not use weighted grade point values for Honors classes to determine grade point average:

A = 5
B = 4
C = 3
D = 1
F = 0



The Child Find program helps to "find" children who may have a delay in development or a disability. Our goal is to provide early intervention and special education services for eligible children. If you know of a child who might need services, contact the Special Education Department at the school. There is no cost for the program.



We provide guidance services to help our students plan for future education. If our students plan to attend a university, community college, or technical school, we encourage them to start making preparations as freshmen. Those students planning to attend a university will need to apply to take the ACT/SAT test no later than the fall of their senior year, but we strongly recommend the beginning of their junior year. Individual universities and/or scholarship programs may require just one test or both. Applications are available in the guidance office. We also recommend that students take the ACT/SAT/PSAT if they plan to attend a community college— although it is not required. Check the guidance office for more specific information.

We want all of our students to reach their maximum potential. That's why our district provides on-site special services for exceptional students who qualify based upon one or more of the following areas of disability:

  • Specific learning disability
  • Speech/Language impairment
  • Hearing impairment
  • Visual impairment
  • Orthopedic impairment
  • Mental retardation
  • Emotional disability
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Other health impairments


Our Work Release program gives students a chance to get some hands-on career training. We allow our juniors and seniors enrolled in CTE (Career and Technical Education) to be enrolled for only four (4) academic classes, and with parent permission and administrative approval, release them from school two periods per day so they can gain real employment experience.
